Conner Burns opened Burns Pottery and established his studio, gallery and clay teaching studio in 2003. In 2007 Burns changed the studio name to Natchez Clay to more accurately represent the total group of artists and their contributions.
In 2008, Conner sold the studio to two students, Donna Jones and Jacque Stahlman, who relocated the studio to the Natchez bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River.
Natchez Clay is now perched atop the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. The new studio is bright and spacious and includes both private, semi-private and shared studio spaces. Classes have been expanded to include not only wheel-throwing classes but also hand-building, special holiday, after-school kids, special needs and home-school classes. We now fire not only in Cone 10 reduction but also Cone 6 oxidation as well.
In 2010 we addressed the needs of those unable to commit to an 8 or 10 week class by adding "pay-as-you-go" hand-building night classes. One-day hand-building workshops were added for out-of-town guests and small groups and private parties.
We continually add to our studios facilities as funds are available so that we can allow studio members new equipment to utilize in their work. Recent additions to studio equipment include a spray booth, pug mill and slab roller.
Natchez Clay is committed to exposing our studio members and visitors to experienced artists from around the country by hosting workshops. Past guest artists include Emily Reason, Lindsay Rogers, Cathy Broski, Danny Meisinger and Amy Sanders.
