Pottery Classes at Natchez Clay
Beginning the week after Labor Day

We have a class for everyone this fall. Have you always wanted to try making pottery on the potters wheel? Check out our Beginning Wheel Throwing class. If you think your hands aren't strong enough or maybe have some arthritis you think will hold you back? Try the Hand Building Class. Did you have a pottery class earlier and you want to practice or learn some new forms? Try our Intermediate Skills Class.

Beginning wheel throwing - Monday nights 6:00 - 8:30 PM

Learn to center clay on the wheel  and throw small cylinders, bowls, vases and cups. No experience required. Learn to center clay on the wheel and throw small cylinders and bowls. This class is also great for novices needing to reinforce basic skills. You also have Saturdays from 1:00 - 5:00 PM to come in and practice! Cost of 8-week class session - $240 - includes bag of clay, glazes and firing of your work. Beginners will need to purchase $30 tool kit. Deposit required.

Intermediate Skills Class - Wednesdays (6:00 - 8:30 PM) for 5 weeks.

Our focus topic this session will be "Altered Vessels". Instructor Amanda Jeansonne will demonstrate how thrown forms can be distorted to create everything from basic casseroles to unique vessels. Decorating techniques included. Experience required for Intermediate class: the ability to center and throw a cylinder. Cost of 5-week class session - $150 - includes bag of clay, glazes and firing of up to 20 pieces of work. Deposit required.

 

Hand Building Class - Tuesdays (6:00 - 8:30 PM) for 8 weeks (inquire about AM classes

You won't believe all the beautiful things you can make in this class. Learn to make coil pots, hand shape small sculptures, roll slabs and form them into boxes, vases and more. Then we explore all the many things you can use to decorate your project - everything from antique lace to leaves from your garden. We usually finish a project each night. Then you can come back on Saturdays (1-5 PM) to practice what you learned.. Cost of 8-week session - $240 - includes bag of clay, glazes and firing of up to 20 pieces of work. Beginners will need to purchase a $25 tool kit. Deposit required.

About our classes
Currently Natchez Clay provides Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer sessions. Class fees include one bag of clay, glaze and firing coupons for 20 pieces of work made during the class. Classes are one day each week for 2-1/2 hours with 4 hours of open studio time on Saturdays for extra practice.
